The Real Estate Appraiser Advisory Board (REAAB) held its first meeting on Wednesday, October 31, 2018 in St. Paul, MN. The REAAB was established during the 2018 MN legislative session thanks to efforts by the North Star Chapter Goverrnment Relations Committee (GRC). It is a seven-member board tasked with advising and providing input on real estate appraisal best practices to the Minnesota Department of Commerce (DOC). This includes, but is not limited to, licensing, public disciplinary matters, continuing education, and industry-related trends. Six members are selected by the DOC commissioner. The remaining member slot is reserved for a representative of the DOC.
The six appointees, including four North Star Chapter members, are:
- David Cherner (AMC representative)
- Ken Folven, Cert. Res. (works for AMC)
- Janene Hebert, MAI
- Terri Jensen, AI Affiliate
- Byron Miller, SRA, AI-RRS
- Brian Tinjum, MAI
The purpose of the REAAB’s first meeting was to introduce the members and establish procedures for conducting board business. At the meeting, the board also elected the chapter’s own Brian Tinjum, MAI, as board chair. The next meeting is scheduled for the first quarter of 2019.
